IELTS とか TOEFL でスコアを持っていればパスできます。

ENGL0101 の Unit4 ではThe 5 Paragraph Essay and the Libraryについて学ぶそうです。
授業の終わりには以下のことができるようになるそうです。

A Thesis is a basic statement that is set down to be shown or proved the thesis also acts like a topic sentence for the paragraph

Introduction とは

The introduction should be at least the first paragraph to your essay
In longer papers, the introduction can span a few pages The main purpose of the introduction is to let your reader know what you are going to discuss and what the rest of your paper might look like

Map とは、Introduction の中に書く文で、その論文が何について書かれているかのヒントを読者に与えるもの。

以上をまとめると、

As you can see a strong first paragraph should introduce your topic, your thesis and give a map. The paragraph is also filled with supporting information

5 つのパート

Introduction は以下の 3 つのパートで作る
#

  • hook: Intro の最初の興味を引くような 1 文。
    例）according to a recent study, nearly one in four people in the world use social media.
  • background information: 言いたいことを理解してもらうための基本的な情報を伝える。
    例）growth of social media, different kinds of social media, ongoing debate about wehther or not positive influence
  • thesis: 伝えたいことと議論のプレビューの役目を果たす 1 文。問題に対する自分の考え。
    例）The use of social media impacts our lives positively every day by allowing us to connect with other people, stay informed about the world, and be creative with online content.

  • Introduction の thesis で書いた意見について書く
  • 各パラグラフは 5~8 文で成り立つ
  • 構成
    • The topic sentence: パラグラフのメインアイデイアを紹介する 1 文。
      例）At its core, any social media platform serves the basic purpose to connect people with one another, which it does in many different ways.
    • The argument / main idea: 4-6 文で議論をする。論理的であるべき。
      例）People can look each other up and reconnect with the people in their lives. Friends and family living countries aprt stay connected. Can be used in times of crisis to check in with friends/family and see if they are safe.
    • The conclusion sentence: 議論を再度述べて、パラグラフをまとめる 1 文。
      例）With a tool like social media, people across the globe can stay in regular contact with family and friends and find new friends.

Conclusion

  • The transition sentence: 議論しているトピックや問題と意見を再度述べる 1 文。
    例）With the rise of social media, people have been able to connect with the world in a way that wouldn’t have been possible a decade ago, however its rapid growth had brought forward a debate on whether or not being involved in social media is healthy in our everday lives.
  • Summarize the arguments: 3 つのメインの議論を 2,3 文で再度述べる。
    例）allows people to stay connected. always be informed about world events. work creatively online.
  • restate your thesis: thesis を強い 1 文でまとめる。
    例）Our lives have and are being changed for the better through the power of social media and its ability to connect people, inform them, and allow them to innovate.
